TIPS FOR MAKING YOUR NEW YEAR GOALS LIST
How do you want your New Year to look like, what do you want to focus on and what do you want to change? First of January is a perfect day to make plans and goals list. I just love this day, it makes me think, plan and organize myself, and it’s not that I don’t do that usually but that day I’m motivated even more.
Every first of January for me is a new beginning. People get so excited about 31th of December, celebration and party in the air, but then the first day of the new year when they really should be excited – they are not. I will give you some tips how to start a new year in the most motivated and productive way. I hope you are not going to be too hung over.
First of all, give yourself good sleep! I know we all will be partying tonight till late hours but if we don’t give ourselves time for rest we will not be able to think clearly and focus on things we really want to realize in the upcoming year.
Second and really important thing is – switch off your phones in the first hour after waking up and enjoy your breakfast and coffee. After a long night out our brains and bodies need time to restart in order to work properly. Don’t force yourself to think about anything begin this morning, just keep calm and relax.
OK, when we are ready physically and mentally it is time to do recapitulation of the current year that we are ready to leave behind now. Think about what you did and what you didn’t do and things that you wanted but you didn’t get and why is that. Weren’t your goals realistic enough or you were too lazy and your time management wasn’t good?! Please, just don’t blame others for the things you didn’t do!
Make a list of things that happened to you in the year behind and be grateful for every experience. There are things that happen to me and I think “Why is this happening to me, I don’t deserve that?“, but then a few months later I find out that things happen for a reason. And you know what, if this never happened I would have never learned what I had to know and I would probably keep making same mistakes and I would most probably never get opportunities I got later on.
Now is time to plan your following year! Ask yourself, what do you want to do and what is that, you really want to achieve next year? What do you want to change in your routines and behavior? How are you thinking of working on yourself; are you going to change your lifestyle, start to eat healthily, and workout regularly and read more? Are you going to learn a new language, start dancing or take up to painting class? Would you want to search for a new job you have always wanted to do? Are you going to spend more quality time with friends and family?
Remember one thing: time flies by anyway, put yourself together as soon as possible, focus and organize your life!
Even if you make a list of all the things you want to work on in the next year but this list is only in your head probably some months later you will forget at least some of the notes if you don’t put them on the paper and keep reminding yourself every time when you get out of focus. Take a notebook and write it down!
The list you make has to contain personal and professional targets. As Jim Kwik said, plan three business things that you want to be able to focus on and three personal things. We can’t just focus on our work but forget about our body, soul and mind, it is all connected. On one page write down all the business things you want to focus on in next 365 days and on another side all the personal ones.
Avoid crowded places on 1th of January, it’s a day for yourself, let it be just yours. We are often surrounded by so many people and that distracts us from our thoughts.
