HOW TO BOOK MORE JOBS AS A MODEL
Models’ work is very unpredictable. Sometimes you will work every day and beg for a day off and sometimes you will not work at all for weeks and freak out what’s wrong?! In this industry, there are many factors and many of them you can`t control like seasons, the types of models that the markets want every year, competition, etc. However, you always have to be at your best and ready for upcoming jobs and opportunities.
FIRST OF ALL, YOU HAVE TO BUILD A GOOD RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR BOOKERS!
They are the one who represents you to the clients and gets you castings and in order to fully work in your advantage, they have to believe in you. In order to believe in you, you have to show them that you are dedicated to working and you care as much as they do, but even more. Motivate them to do more by doing your best at every job, making people want to work with you and constantly giving positive feedback on your work. You have to make the whole team happy; client, make up artist, hairstylist, photographer, stylist, as this is the way to secure more jobs in the future. And the best thing is that you may not need to do a casting again but they will do a direct booking and that`s what all models want.
DO RESEARCH BEFORE HEADING TO CASTING!
When you get an email from your booker with information about castings for the next day, check those brands and see what is their style and what they want. You should try to dress up according to their style. Sometimes this is hard to manage as models usually have several castings per day which mostly means different styles but doing a little research never hurts. As models, we have to be like a Chameleon with incredible adaptability.
WALK-IN WITH CONFIDENCE, RESPECT THE CLIENT AND SHOW INTEREST IN WHAT THEY DO!
Don`t be just one of those models who walk in and out with a grumpy face. I am saying that as I see this pretty often, seems like many models don`t take it seriously. Each casting is an opportunity for the next job! Ask questions if you feel they are willing to talk and make them fall in love with you and book you for a job. Also, a very important thing is to walk with confidence, no one wants to work with someone who is lost and confused.
ENERGY, ENERGY, ENERGY!
People always remember how you make them feel and in my opinion this is more important than how you look. Sometimes a client will have an idea of the model they want but then a girl with a completely different look but really good energy will show up and blow them away. I’ve had many situations in castings when the client says they don`t want a girl with short hair but then they fell in love with my personality and changed their mind. If you want to book more jobs make them feel good about having you around.
TAKE CARE OF YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA!
Nowadays, Instagram becomes as important for models as their portfolio. Check out a blog post I wrote about it, “Importance of Instagram for models – new portfolio.” Social media is part of our business and has to be treated this way. Whenever you want to post something ask yourself a question “Will this get me more jobs and present me the way I want to be presented?” People will see only what is shown to them, so we must always be conscious of the image we present on social media.
KEEP IN TOUCH WITH THE PEOPLE YOU WORK WITH!
Everyone likes to work with people they feel connected with. It is easy nowadays with social media, from time to time you should send a message, ask how they are, doesn`t cost you anything and you will be surprised how many of them will appreciate it. Once you leave the market it doesn’t mean that you have to forget about all the people you met and worked with, keep in touch, those are your connections and you may come back in the future. Itş much easier to book jobs in the market you’ve been to before where you built a good network, so when you go for castings people recognize you.
If you want to book more jobs start working on it now, maybe it will not show up immediately but in the long term it will pay off. Being a model is 24/7 job, and it’s not just time on castings and shoots but the time you spend in the gym, taking care of your skin, your diet, building connections, posting on Instagram, showing up in public, it is all part of your job!
